7 Different Types of Vaginal Surgeries
There are a number of reasons for a woman to seek vaginal plastic surgery. Women who go through childbirth often stretch out the vaginal walls and lips of the vaginal area. When it happens, women become self-conscious about the appearance of their vagina. Vaginal surgery is a way that women can restore youth, tightness, and tone to the vaginal area, as well as sexual gratification.
Here is a list of the different types of vaginal surgeries that patients can avail:
Rejuvenation of the Vagina – Vaginoplasty
A loose vagina is a common problem after childbirth, especially after multiple children, or vaginal delivery of a large baby. The vagina and its supporting tissues become extremely stretched and torn during childbirth and chances are it never returns to its pre-pregnancy size. The surgical rejuvenation and tightening of the vagina, perineum and the supporting muscles, is vaginoplasty.
Tightening Up the Perineum – Perineoplasty
Your Perineum is the area of skin found between the bottom end of your vulva and the opening of your anus. Once it becomes badly stretched, particularly in childbirth, it can make the vagina feel wider than normal, meaning that intercourse is not the same as it was prior to giving birth.
Perineoplasty, also known as Perineorrhaphy, aims to make this region appear normal by excising excess skin, loose skin tags, and suturing the underlying muscles or the perineal body closer together to give a more snug feeling in the introitus or vaginal opening. This procedure is almost always accompanied by vaginoplasty since the same area is being worked on.
Reduction of the Outer Lips – Labia Majora Plasty
The enlargement of the outer lips (Labia Majora) can cause an embarrassing bulge in pants or swimsuits and this anatomical variation may be worsened by weight gain or childbirth. It may sometimes be improved by liposuction but in more severe cases, surgical reduction is available.
Reduction of the Inner Lips – Labiaplasty
Many women dislike the large protuberant appearance of their inner lips (Labia Minora) as it may cause severe embarrassment with a sexual partner. Overly large inner lips can also result in constant irritation in tight pants. Labiaplasty, the surgical labial reduction, can improve the aesthetic appearance of the abnormally enlarged labia. Some women are born with large labia, others develop this condition with age.
Reduction of the Clitoral Hood – Clitoridotomy
Some women have thickened skin over their clitoris and it may interfere with sexual stimulation and decrease sensitivity. Through un-hooding of the clitoris the extra folds of skin on the side of the clitoris are removed.

Reduction of the Mons Pubis – Vulvar Lipoplasty
When a woman has excess fatty deposits in the hair bearing area of the lower abdomen, referred to technically as the Mons pubis, she often feels that she looks like a man when she is wearing pants. This can be corrected by liposuction.
Reconstruction of the Hymen – Hymenoplasty
In this procedure surgeons reconstruct the torn hymen, the thin ring-like skin membrane that partially covers the opening of the vagina, as if nothing ever occurred, to make the patient look “virginal.”
Vaginal plastic surgery should really only be considered as a means of correcting or improving the genitalia where there is discomfort in day to day life, or a genuine problem, such as difficulty with sexual intercourse. It should not really be seen as a means of achieving an aesthetically perfect version of the vagina.
